5 Ways To Get Cake Orders When You’re Broke

We want to make money from our baking passion, right. But sometimes it seems to be an uphill task. We try all we can but you don’t seem to get a headway.

I too have gone through period of low sales. And you know its when you are totally broke that you start looking for inventive and creative ways to get more sales.

So I want to tell you 7 sure fire ways that I used that worked for me when I needed to get more cake orders when I was totally broke.

  1. Tell your friends and family that you are taking cake orders

Believe me people forget. You may think they know but how many situations have you been in when you go to a friends birthday and they have ordered a cake from someone else. I know it has happened to me. So continually tell your your friends and family you take cake orders.  In fact right now before you read any more, spend the next 5 minutes sending a quick text or Facebook message to your friends.

You can say something like, ’Order a cake for N20,000 and get a box of 6 free cupcakes!’’

2. Share on your Facebook Business Page that you are taking cake orders. If you do not know what to say, you can use this example:

‘Do you have a birthday, anniversary or Christmas Party coming

up?  Order Now and get 6 FREE Cupcakes!!! (For orders over N15,000)’.

3. Join Facebook groups and share that you are taking cake orders.  Simple!

4. Share with your Email Contacts. Look at people in your emails, and ask them if they of their family have a birthday coming up!

A helpful tip is to give them something for free if they recommended you to someone else. You could say:

‘’Hey, I have a free gift for you.  Clara’s Cakes are now taking Cake Orders in the Lekki area. Here is a free voucher for 6 free Cupcakes (on orders over N15,000).

5. Attend Events

Attend events such as Church Fairs, stalls, markets, exhibitions, wedding expos,  shop openings and charity events. This is  highly recommend, especially at the beginning of your cake business journey, as this is where people are going to learn about your new business.

Also remember to always share your business cards and ask people who come to you for their email address and phone number so you can follow up.

So that is it. Just pick and choose 1 or 2 methods you can do right now to get some cake money in your pocket.
