Social Media tools for cake businesses

How to make your Cake Business stand out from the crowd

We are already in June already. Imagine. Half year!

How are you feeling about it?

Are you scared, apprehensive or joyful?

I have mixed feelings because yes i have achieved  some goals i set myself at the beginning of the year, but there are still a number of goals that i am yet to do or even get started.

Sometimes i ask myself if i am able to achieve it or if it is even possible. I set myself a money goal, but  at times i go through periods where i doubt myself and ask myself if it is possible especially when those unexpected expenses come eating into my income.

But i know God has my back and i will keep on keeping on.

So for those who are still wondering how they are going to make their income goal through their cake sales, here are a few ideas to make your cake business stand out.

1. Know your brand

A strong brand will help your customers remember you.  Branding is not just about your logo or the colours you use or how your website is, it also translates to how you treat your customers and how you portray your business.

2. Give great  customer service always

They say in Nigeria, we don’t know about customers service. How may times have you been to an eatry or a supermarket and the workers don’t smile and if you ask for their help, it is like you are disturbing them.

So be an exception to the rule. No matter how you feel, give great customer service. Answer your work phone with a smile, listen to the customers. Yes, you will come across some customers that are demanding, or even rude. But, ultimately, the relationship you have with your customers is what’s going to keep them coming back for more.

So go the extra mile for your customers. They are paying you after all.

3. Have Social media skills

Your business needs to be online. Use your website and social media to your advantage. Engage with your customers on social media.

If you aren’t confident with on how you can market effectively using social media – fear not! Here is a course to help you.

4. Try something different

Why don’t you be different from the norm. Expand your product line and do different type of cake designs. Do something that is totally different from what is out there. And when you do market it superbly on social media.

5. Enter cake competitions

This is a great exposure for your brand, and you don’t have to win. Just need to enter. When you enter cake competitions, there is always press and you can take pictures for your website. So this will show people that you are a serious cake business owner and your brand can sky rocket. It will also help you to improve your networking and presentation skills.

Tips On Getting Started With A Social Media Site For Your Cake Business

Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Twitter are great for cake businesses.Today, social media sites are no longer just an ingenious way for people to meet, connect and share. It is now also one of the most powerful advertising tools which where cake business owners can use to connect to their customers.

However, it is noteworthy that social media marketing is like a double-edged sword – it is something that needs to be wielded correctly. In the hands of a skilled marketer, it is an effective sales tool. But in the hands of an amateur, it can turn success into demise.

Here are tips to keep in mind when you are using social media for marketing for your cake business.

  1. Make a draft plan of the contents first

Getting started without a plan can lead to a messy start. This will not be good for your company image. So before you make your social media account available, make sure that you planned for its contents and design first.

  1. Come up with an editorial calendar

You may have plenty of things you want to share and say. But if you post all of them at the same, people will get confused. Also, you will quickly run out of things to share in the future. So make a timeline and plan which things you want to post first and which ones should follow in a chronological order.

  1. Know your target market niche

There are plenty of people that join social media sites. However, you do not really want to reach to all of them. You need to focus on a group of people which are ‘potential customers’. Know who they are. If you do wedding cakes, then you should join and post on wedding sites.

  1. Check for a possibly existing account with a similar name

You do not want people to confuse you for another organization, group, or individual. You do not know how these other accounts are behaving and anything they do might have implications on your company’s image. If you found out that there are already existing accounts with a similar name or a mockingly similar name, you can go to checkusernames.com to help you come up with an alternative.

  1. Know how to lure in the people in your target market niche

Do you already have a clear vision of who your target market niche is, that is your potential customer? The next thing you need to figure out is how you can lure them in. You need to make a research on the things that interest them. For example, if your products are birthday cakes, then your target market niche are mothers, then perhaps some content with pictures of different Disney character cakes will lure them in.

  1. Use high quality graphics and Photoshop edited photos

People are attracted to visually appealing cakes. Sometimes, it is not the content but the appearance. What really draws potential customers to your social media profile is the look of it. You should make sure your Facebook business page looks more attractive by using high quality pictures, photographs, and images of your cakes.

  1. Make sure that you have the resources to regularly maintain a social media account

Yes, it is free to sign up to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. You should have the time to post regularly. It will serve you no good if you don’t post consistently. And if you need to advertise, you will probably need to pay these social media sites. Make sure that you have a budget for it.

  1. Check to see if having a social media account will really be of help to your company or if it will just be a liability

There are a lot benefits in having a social media account for your company. But there are also dangers. You need to analyze if you can take these risks head on.

Essential Social Media Tools to Run a Successful Home based Cake Business

Are you a bit skeptical about this Social media thing? Or you have no idea how to use social media for your home based cake business?  Or you don’t know how social media can benefit your cake business.

There are various social media platforms out there and frankly you can be a bit overwhelmed by all of them. But luckily you don’t have to be on all of them.

You should know that Social media is a good investment for your home based cake business.

Once you know where your target market hangs out and what tools they are using, you can now invest your time in maintaining the accounts.

The Golden Rule of running a successful social media campaign: Don’t bite off more than you can chew.

It’s better to have just 2 great accounts than 5 or 6 forgettable accounts. It’s best to pick two social media tools that works for you and be excellent at it, than wearing yourself thin using all the social media platforms out there.

Here’s a rundown of my favourite social media marketing tools to use,so you can choose which ones will be the perfect fit for you.

Facebook

Facebook is a great platform for reaching out to customers of all ages; adults, teens and mostly women. A great place to share your cake pictures, contact information, , testimonials and reviews and having that space to engage personally with your customers is great for building a better relationship.

Tip: Facebook has an affordable advertising program that can help you to target your specific customers. Setting up a page is easy and fast (take a look to our guide: How To Create A Facebook Page) .

Facebook is also great because you can also schedule the posts, so you can now plan out the perfect time to update your post, according to your customers’ online habits.

Twitter

Twitter is perfect for those bakers who are location independent and perfect for keeping your customers up-to-date!

Also, it is okay to update your account multiple times a day without annoying your followers.

Tip: Studies show that a tweet with a picture will get retweeted more. So add in your creative cake picture if you want your tweets to get retweeted.

Instagram

Instagram is very visual, so having a good cake picture is very important. Good lighting, focus and a good layout is also essential. But if all else fails, use a filter. Studies show pictures with filter gets more likes than those without.

Instagram is also great for showcasing your creations, reviews from customers and behind the scene pictures (in the kitchen baking your cake, shopping for ingredients in the supermarket etc). People love that! It makes them feel like they can get to know you more intimately.

Tip: 90% of Instagram users are below the age 35 so use hashtags to target potential customers.

Youtube

Youtube is a great way to showcase your talents. You can post up tutorials, recipes and product reviews.

It allows you to communicate certain topics more effectively (like how to make that incredible detailed Frozen figurine or that gravity defying cake) than pictures and words.

Tip: Go ahead, let your personality shine through and update consistently. Who knows, you may get endorsed by a big brand.

k35

Pinterest

Like Instagram, Pinterest is a highly visual tool. It is mostly used by females around the age of 30 – 50 years old with higher income .

Pinterest is great for building your branding image.

Tip: To get more exposure, add the free Pinterest page app to your facebook page to promote your Pinterest presence.

Website

A website is essential for your cake business, if you are ready to take your business to the next level.

Why? Because you will have better control of your branding, marketing, what information to put up or not and heighten your customers shopping experience with you by setting up a shopping cart or an online shopping system.

Tip: If you love to connect with your customers with stories and personal experiences, you can do that with the blog update too. You can create a website by yourself, its quite easy, just click here for our guide: (To setting up your Website for your cake business).

This guide should give you an idea of what social media networks will get you the most results from social media marketing.

So what social platform are you using now? Is t working for you?

I would love to hear your experience.Share them in the comments below.
